NEW YORK—Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc.'s total revenues for the first six months of this year increased 4.6% over those of the same period a year earlier to $6.08 billion, the company reported Tuesday.

Revenue for Marsh Inc., the company's brokerage operation, rose 6.0% to $2.79 billion, while that of reinsurance intermediary Guy Carpenter & Co. L.L.C. rose 5.9% to $632 million. Revenue from consulting operations Mercer L.L.C. and Oliver Wyman Group grew 2.9% to $2.65 billion.

Second-quarter total revenues increased 3.3% to $3.03 billion. Marsh Inc.'s revenues grew 4.4% to $1.41 billion while Guy Carpenter's increased 7.0% to $275 million. Consulting revenues increased 1.67% to $1.34 billion in the quarter.

The company's net income for the first half rose 11.4% to $676 million. For the second quarter, income increased 16.7% to $329 million.

“Our outstanding second quarter results successfully built on our strong first quarter,” said Brian Duperreault, president and CEO of Marsh & McLennan. “We produced revenue growth in each of our operating companies, as well as growth in operating income in both risk and insurance services and consulting, with meaningful margin improvement.”
